With the MDG’s approaching their expiration date of 2015, (except for MDG 7 Target 11, improving lives of 100 million slum dwellers, which aspires to being reached in 2020), the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) are now being formulated through consultation for the Post-2015 agenda through online contribution at http://www.theworldwewant2015.org. South Africa, a signatory to the MDG’s and UN-Habitat agendas, many urbanists will agree, presents a unique landscape for change, as do most places. With all the global agenda’s that past and present demagogic SA governments are enthusiastically signed up to in the quest to reduce, replace and re-house, has there been enough consideration for the particularity of the African canvas and the scenes of shacks? Is the drive to eradicate shacks gaining enough momentum or is it a case of mistaken temporality?
